FAQs:

When do I
need to seek counseling?

There are going to be times when the burden of personal or psychological issues requires assistance outside of your normal support circle of friends and family. Social House offers counseling services for individuals who are struggling with issues related to family, social and romantic relationships, life transitions, sexuality, grief, stress, sexual assault, PTSD, anxiety, loss of motivation, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. Most people wait until they have had a crisis to seek counseling, and we want to remind people that it is never too early to talk to someone. Our hope is for people to take care of their mental wellness before it becomes a mental illness. Many clients need an unbiased and non-judgmental ear to help decipher and deal with life’s stressors. If you or a loved one is currently dealing with any of these concerns, or need to seek professional counseling in general, please call (210) 816-2992 for a 10 minute consultation or to set up an appointment.

What should I bring to the therapy session?

If it is your first appointment, please complete necessary paperwork ahead of time and bring your ID and insurance card (if necessary). If your child is being seen and you are divorced, it is necessary to have a copy of the entire divorce decree on file. Please feel free to dress comfortably, as we want you to feel as comfortable as possible. Individual psychotherapy sessions typically last between 45 and 50 minutes. Prior to your therapy session, it would be very beneficial for you to write down any questions you would like to ask Adam or Monique during your counseling session. Writing them down beforehand will work better for you as people tend to more relaxed at home and can remember questions more easily.

Are after-hours or emergency services available?

In case of a life threatening emergency, call 911. Social House can not guarantee that a counselor will be available at all times. However, if your concern is not life-threatening but perhaps urgent, you are welcome to call Mr. Adam Rahman at 210-816-2992 or Ms. Monique Raack at 210-920-1632 with the understanding that they may not be available but that they will call you back as soon as possible. If you are having urgent suicidal or homicidal thoughts, please have a friend or family member transport you to your nearest behavioral hospital or hospital emergency room.

What are
my payment options and do you accept insurance?

At Social House, we make available up front our rules regarding session charges and payment requirements in exchange for psychotherapy services rendered. As a fully licensed clinician, Adam is able to take the following insurances: Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BCBS), Aetna, and United Health Care. As an LPC Intern, Monique is unable to take insurance and sees clients who are private pay. Some clients choose not to pay through insurance as insurances require information regarding client diagnosis and treatment, and some clients do not feel they meet clinical diagnostic criteria or prefer to keep this information more private. Sliding pay scales may be available on a limited basis for individual private pay clients who meet the necessary financial criteria. Whichever payment option works the best for you, rest assured that your interests will be protected as your personal success is our utmost priority.

What if I
schedule an appointment and later change my mind?

The human mind can be tricky, and the negative feelings that prompted you to make an appointment with Social House may have eased up a bit; but they’re still going to be there later. Over time, the same issues that you’ve struggled with will probably present again until you have made some positive changes in your life. It is very normal to have anxieties about meeting someone for the first time and sharing with them vulnerable information that you may never have said aloud before. Adam and Monique both work hard to ensure you feel comfortable for each session, but especially if it is your first time. If you unavoidably need to miss a therapy session appointment for health or travel reasons, we ask that you please call and cancel as soon as possible as there is a cancellation fee for those who cancel with less than 24 hours notice.
